About Me

About Me

In a world that is becoming increasingly automated, it is becoming harder to find a connection to the earth. And natural stone is arguably one of our greatest building materials which for millennia has been extracted from the ground and shaped by hands. Stone dressing is an age-old craft that takes hewn stone and transforms it into more workable dimensional stone. When undertaken skillfully these stone products are carefully worked to comply with modern building regulations.Stone adds real character to any building and will remain beautiful for years to come becoming part of the landscape. Stone is a sustainable material with a lower environmental impact than most other construction materials and, when dressed by hand, there is much less wastage – which is both better for the world and your budget.

Who I AM

I’m Adam Smith, a left-handed stone dresser from Yorkshire. I’ve been working stone for 25 years and have developed my skills over this time holding positions at well-respected stone companies including Traditional Stone in Horbury. I employ traditional methods and use only the best tools on my projects – ones that I trust and that have almost become an extension of myself. I look after them and they look after me. I don’t use measures or rulers, my eyes are my guide and my methodical approach has given me the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects from bespoke traditional barn conversions to more modern homes. What I do Natural stone offers great versatility and I am happy to advise you on stone sourcing whether you’re looking for something striking or a material that blends in a little more with the local architectural vernacular.
